Feathers and Floodplains #1

There are places in Africa where rivers shape the rhythm of life.
Where vast floodplains stretch to the horizon, where elephants cross between islands of reeds, and where the air fills with the calls of fish eagles, kingfishers, and hundreds of bird species that thrive in the wetlands of northern Namibia and Botswana.
Feathers & Floodplains – The Caprivi Expedition takes you deep into one of Southern Africa’s most extraordinary river landscapes.
This Waypoint Adventures expedition explores the lush waterways and wildlife-rich floodplains of the Chobe, Zambezi, Kwando, and Kavango river systems, where permanent water creates an oasis of life in the heart of southern Africa.
Our journey begins near Kazungula, where the mighty Chobe River meets four countries. Here the expedition convoy gathers before we venture westward into the wilderness of the Chobe Forest Reserve.
From here we cross into the remarkable landscapes of the Zambezi Region (formerly known as the Caprivi Strip), a narrow corridor of land where rivers dominate the landscape and wildlife moves freely between Botswana, Namibia, Zambia, and Angola.
We travel through the beautiful floodplains and river forests of Wuparo Conservancy, a region known for its abundant birdlife and frequent sightings of elephant, buffalo, hippo, and crocodile along the waterways.
The journey continues along the spectacular Kwando River, where remote campsites allow us to experience the rhythm of the wetlands up close. Herds of elephants move between islands and floodplains, while fish eagles call from the tall riverine trees.
From there we explore the pristine wilderness around Nambwa, an area renowned for its wildlife density and remarkable scenery along the Kwando floodplains.
The expedition then leads us to the tranquil banks of the Kavango River, where we spend time at the famous Ngepi Campsite, known for its relaxed atmosphere and spectacular river views. Our final nights are spent near Rundu, where the Kavango River forms the natural border between Namibia and Angola. Here the expedition winds down beside the river, reflecting on the incredible landscapes, wildlife encounters, and friendships formed along the way.
Throughout this journey we travel remote sand tracks and gravel roads, exploring one of the most biodiverse regions in southern Africa.
